Added to songs that have inspired this project, I have also looked back at films that touch upon these topics as well. Ironically all these films are some of my favorite films, perhaps because of how I feel at this point in my life.
Lost in Translation (my overall favorite): This film is about 2 people who meet whilst staying in a hotel in Tpkyo. A young, newly married, college graduate and an ageing, fading movie star. Both are feeling lost in their lives and in their relationships and find solitude and form a strong emotional connection with each other that helps them grow.
This film reinforces the idea that no matter what age you are, there will be times where you will feel lost and not know where to go.
Garden State: A young struggling actor returns home for his mothers funeral. Having been on antidepressant his whole adult life on the advice of his father, he decides to take a look at his life, confront it and take action.
Again this film explores how easy it is to become stuck and just float through life. For me, this film explores how coming home can act as a way to wake up and realise what it is you need to do to move forward.
The Wrestler: This film resolves around an ageing wrestler, past his prime, trying to face the realities of life but too scared to step out of his comfort zone.
While this film is bitter sweet in the end, it again shows that life isn't easy and we can't keep hiding from it. And if we do it will eventually catch up to us.
While these themes are nothing knew and have been explored in various forms, they are extremely relate-able to all and it is these works that have inspired me to base my EP on.
